Have you ever gone on an overnight hike? Here in Tennessee, the locals and visitors love to explore our state parks, falling in love with our natural vistas and landlocked waterways. Our state is gorgeous and everybody knows it - but how much have you really explored? Big Ridge State Park offers hiking professionals and novices the opportunity to spend the weekend immersed in nature - and we think it sounds amazing.
Big Ridge State Park can be found north of Knoxville, and is a hidden gem when it comes to the hiking and backpacking world. But don't be alarmed - there are fifteen miles of trails that criss-cross the natural expanse, making for a fabulous trip for the newbies and golden oldie's alike.
The entirety of the park comes in at 3,687 acres, and boasts year-round campsites (there are fifty of them!), and multiple backcountry camping areas. None of the hikes are set apart for overnight hiking, so you get to mix and match from the beginner-friendly, easier hikes to the ones that are more difficult.
And with views like this, why wouldn't you want to head on out to East Tennessee?
You can enjoy the beautiful Tennessee countryside, a stunning space bursting with lush foliage and wildlife.
The Big Valley Trail hike is 1.7 miles, and it boasts a deep valley that will take your breath away as well as the eerie addition of an old cemetery. It'll take you out to Norris Lake before you head on back to camp.
The park is located in the Valley and Appalachian Ridge range, making it some of the most beautiful country in the state. North Carolina tries to claim some of our shine, but we know who the real winner is.
Walk through the woods, enjoy moments at the lake, fall in love with your state all over again with an overnight visit to Big Ridge State Park. It's where you can adventure into nature and forget the rush and tumble of the world outside. Happy hiking!
This hike is pretty neat, too.
