This Under-the-Radar Tennessee Trail Is Packed With Scenic Surprises

There is one scenic trail in Tennessee you should add to your bucket list, and you can find it in Panther Creek State Park.

It’s the perfect time of year to be spending your days out on the trails. One of my favorite state parks in Tennessee is Panther Creek State Park. The park offers nearly 30 miles of hiking and biking trails to explore, and they come with some beautiful views! I was pleasantly surprised by one of the park’s trails, and this is one scenic trail in Tennessee you should add to your bucket list.

I’m not one to tackle the intense elevation and strenuous hiking trails. I do enjoy a spectacular view, but if it involves several miles of a steep incline, count me out. That being said, I do like to challenge myself, and I think the Point Lookout Loop Trail in Panther Creek State Park checks off all the boxes for me.

Panther Creek State Park is a 1,444-acre park about an hour northeast of Knoxville. Much of the park is nestled around the Cherokee Reservoir, which draws anglers from all walks of life hoping to catch their limits of rockfish, bass, catfish, crappie, bluegill, and bream.

The Point Lookout Loop Trail is one of the 17 different hiking trails at the park. It is just shy of a three-mile loop (2.8 miles) and has an elevation gain of about 600 feet. I’d consider this a moderately challenging trail, which is perfect for me. There are some steep sections and some rocky terrain to navigate, but it’s the perfect amount to challenge yourself without going overboard.

The trail leads you through the woods for a bit, which I thoroughly enjoyed. I love a nice hike through the forest! It’s especially mesmerizing during the summertime when everything is vibrant and green. You might even catch a glimpse of some deer frolicking through the woods if you’re lucky! Speaking of wildlife…regretfully, this is a favorite spot for ticks, so make sure you’re prepared. Wear long pants, try not to brush up on any overgrown grass, and check yourself often. Dogs are welcome on the trail, as long as they are on a leash. Make sure to check your dogs for ticks, too!

Before you know it, you’ll be at the lookout point. The views of Cherokee Lake and the Cumberland Mountains are spectacular! This might be my favorite view from the entire park.

There’s even a chance to head down to the water and enjoy a bit of the beach! On a clear day, this water reflects a truly mesmerizing blue. I’m a sucker for mountain views, and this little stretch of beach with this view is pure perfection.

Though the trail is well-marked, I recommend keeping a trail map handy. Visit the Panther Creek State Park website for more information. Share this article with someone you want to tackle this scenic hiking trail in Tennessee with!
