It’s Impossible Not To Love This Breathtaking Wild Flower Trail In South Dakota

Hiking in South Dakota is a great way to get some exercise and fresh air, and enjoy our state's natural beauty. And this summer, some trails will burst into color as meadows are filled with beautiful wild flowers. Here's one popular trail that you definitely don't want to miss.

Harney Peak (also known as Black Elk Peak) is the highest point in South Dakota. It stands at 7,242 feet. Once you reach the end of this hike, you'll climb the fire tower for some stunning views of the surrounding Black Hills National Forest.

You'll find the trailhead at Sylvan Lake.

The trail makes a 7.1 mile loop. It's considered moderate, and parts of this trail are pretty steep. The effort is worth it, though, because...

...during summer months nature pulls out all the stops, splashing color all over the mountain.

You'll want to bring a good camera along with you - these flowers are worth capturing.

The views from the trail are almost as good as the views from the top.
