Though it's the second smallest South Dakota state park, The Palisades is definitely a gem worth exploring. From scenic overlooks and rushing waters to jaw-drop worthy cliffs and spires, this place is dream worthy. In fact, some call it a little slice of paradise.

You’ll find this little state park just 5 minutes south of the town of Garretson. It’s considered one of the most unique locations in Mount Rushmore State.

The gorgeous Split Rock Creek that flows through the area is surrounded by stunning Sioux quartzite formations and gorgeous cliffs that geologists estimate to be 1.2 billion years old.

Talk about breathtaking! Charming sites are virtually at every corner.

Pictured are the beloved King and Queen Rocks, the intriguing formations that can be seen from the parking lot.

Park visitors can also take advantage of the various hiking trails or even their spectacular campground. A night under the starts at Palisades State Park would certainly be a delightful experience!

This state park is also home to an intriguing legend. It's said that Jesse James famously jumped on horseback across Devil’s Gulch to evade capture in 1876. Though some historians claim it’s impossible, the legend lives on.
