This lake isn’t actually a lake; it’s a reservoir created by the Pactola Dam. This is the largest reservoir in the Black Hills.
Now, South Dakotans come from all over to visit its beautiful blue water.
This reservoir is located in Pennington County and provides water to Rapid Creek. Not only are these clear blue waters beautiful, they’re vital to the community.
In the summer, there’s so much to do on Pactola Lake, and with the Black Hills as the backdrop, you’ll be feeling like you’re in paradise.
From tubing, to water skiing, cliff diving, hiking, and so much more, this spot is full of endless outdoor fun.

Pactola Lake Visitor Center is located west of Rapid City on Pactola Reservoir Dam on Highway 385 in Black Hills.
