It is no secret that we here at Only in South Dakota love beautiful bridge hikes, but we also happen to love old bridges in general, especially during this colorful fall months! If you are looking for a peaceful walk, one-of-a-kind photo opportunity, or just want to get out and enjoy these fleeting months, we recommend checking out the Edgemont City Park Covered Bridge ASAP:
Located in Edgemont, Edgemont City Park is a hidden gem that has everything from epic trails to a beautiful museum to historical markers and old trains.
While small towns are often overlooked in terms of both their parks and attractions, Edgemont is one that cannot be missed, thanks to its stunning surroundings and...
...picture-perfect covered bridge!
Spanning 120-feet-long, 9-feet-wide, and 8-feet-high, the Edgemont City Park Covered Bridge was completed less than 10 years ago and stands in the same spot as the original 1890’s bridge.
Though the original bridge fell into a state of disrepair and had to be removed eventually, the bridge standing in its place today is a lovely tribute to these nostalgic structures.
While the Covered Bridge is a must-visit year-round, it manages to come to life even more in the fall when the leaves on the surrounding trees begin to change into a vibrant yellow.
When you visit the Covered Bridge, be sure to also walk around the Park itself; you will not be disappointed!
