There are always plenty of chain and big city restaurants around, but a lot of really great spots are hiding out in small towns that people may not be aware of. The following small towns in South Dakota aren't that big, but their restaurants have big taste and are just as good as - if not better than - their urban counterparts.

1. Edgemont - Hat Creek Grill

The town of Edgemont has only 775 residents, but that doesn't mean they have to go to the next town over to get a great meal. The Hat Creek Grill is always serving up a variety of delicious food that stays true to the slogan on the storefront. If you're driving along US 18 and need a place to stop for a meal, then this is the best place.

2. Lake Norden - Bullpen Steakhouse

This little lakeside town of 467 residents is home to both the South Dakota Amateur Baseball Hall of Fame and the perfect baseball-themed restaurant to accompany it. If the sight of these riblets served at the Bullpen wasn't enough to convince you, the rest of their menu is loaded with great sandwich, chicken, pasta, burger, and steak options, including a hamburger steak smothered in swiss cheese, mushrooms, and grilled onions. Talk about delicious!

3. Burke - Stella's

This tiny town restaurant gets 5 stars across the board on multiple review sites and it is well deserved. Just over 600 people live in the town of Burke, and while you'd expect a small town restaurant with the usual small menu, Stella's menu is packed with tons of options that you probably wouldn't even find in restaurants in bigger cities. Add the fact that all of those options are exceedingly tasty, and you've got a proper hidden gem.

4. Freeman - Prairie House

When a burger has the restaurant's brand in every bun, you know it's something special. Prairie House offers a variety of options, everything from crab mac & cheese to a plethora of burgers, and all of them are extremely tasty. If you're a fan of wings, then this place is definitely for you - they have TONS and they are amazing!
