Did you hear the news? A lunar eclipse is just on the horizon (see what I did there?) and those of us here in South Dakota will have a front row seat to this can't-miss event! Just what is a lunar eclipse and when is it taking place? We've got the scoop:

Occurring January 20th through January 21st from 8:36 p.m. to 1:48 a.m. is the 2019 lunar eclipse, which is also referred to as the "super blood wolf moon."

What is a lunar eclipse? It is when the moon passes directly behind earth and into the earth's shadow, which is a phenomenon that can only occur when sun, earth, and moon are perfectly aligned.

Taking place in the constellation of Cancer, the 2019 lunar eclipse will be best viewed in South Dakota from 10:41 p.m. to 11:43 p.m.

To catch the eclipse at its max (when the moon is closest to the center of the shadow), be sure to look up at around 11:12 p.m.

The next lunar eclipse will not occur until 2021, so make sure to stay awake for this truly amazing event!
