This Out Of The Way Public Beach May Be The Best Kept Secret In South Carolina

Discover a hidden, unspoiled beach at the southern tip of Pawleys Island, South Carolina, perfect for those seeking a quiet retreat.

The Palmetto State is a favorite retreat for vacationers from far and wide and our beaches are a huge part of the allure. So much so, that if you live in or near a beach community, you may think twice about heading to a crowded beach where you may or may not find a parking spot, let alone a quiet spot on the sand. Little do they (the visitors) know there are a few hidden beaches in South Carolina where we can escape the crowds and enjoy a day in the surf.

One of those secret spots is a white, sandy beach that stretches along the Atlantic for nearly a half mile of unspoiled beachfront.

This pristine spot in paradise is a welcome retreat for anyone who doesn't like big crowds or carrying gear for long distances from a vehicle.

There are no houses, no hotels, no restaurants, no bars, and very few people in comparison to other public beaches.

The beach is a positively blissful swath of sand that's located at the southernmost tip of Pawleys Island.

What's more: there's a parking lot at the end of the island only steps over the dunes from the beach.

South Carolinians usually have a beach they favor over all others, and this one could soon overtake even your favorite spot.

There is much to be said for lounging on a mostly empty beach in the middle of summer.

Bring your gear, a cooler full of cold beverages, and some sunscreen and stay a while.

Do you know of another beach this long and this empty in South Carolina? We'd be hard-pressed to find another quite like it...

Pawleys Island is located between Georgetown and Litchfield Beach. The parking lot at the south end of the island is open from dawn until 11:00 p.m. There are no facilities for public use at this beach. Here's a Google Maps link that will guide you to the parking lot.

Address: 764 County Road S-22-104, Pawleys Island, SC, 29585
