Here is yet another reason to load up the car and head to the beach this year: a zoo that's unlike any other in the Palmetto State. Further, it's located in the most unlikely of places - adjacent to one of the most popular shopping centers on the coast. If you've ever been the Barefoot Landing and have driven past this place with an ambivalent notion, then take a look below at what you've been missing.

The zoo itself is home to more than 200 species of animals from around the world, including these pink Chilean Flamingos. So cute!

And this little creature (a lemur) from Madagascar.

But you'll soon discover that, other animals aside, it's the reptiles that steal the show at this attraction! And there is plenty to see as you make your way around the 15 acres filled with a variety of "exhibits."

Be sure to stick around long enough for feeding time. (The giant turtles just might be your favorite.)

Or, you can also watch a feeding frenzy featuring the stars of the park. There isn't an official published number of alligators at this zoo, but once you've been here you'll feel like you've seen thousands in one day.

Plus, this zoo has the largest crocodile in captivity in the U.S. And boy, are we glad he's in captivity! He's 18-feet long and weighs 2,000 pounds. Yikes. Want to watch him eat out of someone's hand? Yes, you can do that here.

Alligators and crocodiles make up the bulk of the animal population here and you'll enjoy making your way through the zoo feeling a new excitement each time you see and learn about another species...

Check out these Albino Alligators. Imagine seeing one of these sunning itself on your local golf course... that would be just so weird!

Photo opportunities abound within this park, that's for sure. You'll even get a chance to take home a shot with your head in an alligator's mouth. Of course, it's made of brass, but it still counts in our book!
