Lobos Creek Valley Trail is a trail you may have not heard of often, however it is perfect for an easy winter hike. What is so special about this hike? Lobos Creek Valley Trail is a rare entity in the city. Before becoming a bustling city we know today, a large part of the city was made up of coastal sand dunes. Today, this area of sand dunes is now a hike and historical area, and could be the easiest and least crowded hike in the city. If you want to do a quick easy hike during the winter then this is perfect and easily accessible!
Lobos Creek Valley Trail is located at 1750 Lincoln Blvd, San Francisco, 94129 in the Presidio. Start the trail at Lincoln (A) as it is listed on the map.
Hike Information
This hike is around 0.9 miles and takes about 28-30 minutes to walk. Parking is easiest on the east side of the trail off Lincoln Blvd.
This Hike is historical and exciting.
The hike brings you through restored dunes and forest in the Presidio. Experience a bit of San Francisco's lost natural heritage through this hike too.
Stunning Views
This is a wonderful and intimate coastal trail with surprising views. The trail wraps around the Presidio toward Baker Beach.
An Educational Hike
Take the time to read the interpretive markers along the way to learn about how SF used to be mostly San Dunes before they planted trees. This is one of the few hikes that is also a learning experience.
Happy Trails
The trail is just under a mile and mainly a flat boardwalk. The trail snakes through renewed habitat like native plants and the elegant trees of the Presidio.
Dunes in San Francisco
In 1995 to 1996, the dunes were restored and the valley was graded and landscaped. The boardwalk near the Lincoln Boulevard side of the trail takes visitors through the valley, all the while protecting delicate vegetation.
