Visit The Lakes At Roger Williams Park In Rhode Island For Beautiful Views Of The Fall Colors
Roger Williams Park in Providence, Rhode Island, offers stunning fall foliage and hosts the annual Jack O'Lantern Spectacular.
Rhode Island is amazing in any season, but there's truly something magical about living here in the autumn. And if you're looking for a relaxing spot to take in the surreal fall colors, we highly suggest heading to Roger Williams Park and spending some time by the lovely lakes.
Roger Williams Park is located in Providence, where it has been since the 1870s.
Back then, Betsey Williams bequeathed 102 acres of farmland and woodland to the city for public purposes. Part of that gift included land that had been given to her great, great, great grandfather, Rhode Island founder Roger Williams, by the Narragansett sachems Canonicus and Miantonomo tribes.
The 435-acre park is known as The People's Park, which has turned out to be a very appropriate nickname.
Community events, family picnics, weddings, running groups, and festivals are often hosted here.
While you'll find beautiful fall foliage all over the park in October, the best place to enjoy it is on the shores of the seven lakes and ponds.
Deep Spring Lake, Roosevelt Lake, and Polo Lake are particularly lovely.
If you've lived in Rhode Island for awhile, you've probably heard of the Roger Williams Park Zoo.
Founded in 1872, it's one of the oldest zoos in the nation, and it features over 150 animals from around the world.
But while the zoo is definitely the top attraction at the park, the fall foliage is a close second.
This is, by far, the best time of year to stroll the grounds.
Roger Williams Park is also home to the annual Jack O'Lantern Spectacular, which will be around until November 3.
This nationally acclaimed event attracts people from all over New England who stroll the grounds from 6 - 10:30 p.m. nightly.
But as amazing as the jack o'lantern festival is, it's best to arrive long before dust.
The autumn hues here are spectacular, but they fade pretty quickly.
