Encounter Unique Rock Formations On Rhode Island’s Snake Den North Loop Trail At Snake Den State Park
Hiking always promises the unexpected, one of the reasons it's one of my favorite outdoor activities. We never know what wildlife we'll cross paths with or what natural wonders will greet us around the next corner. So much natural beauty awaits along this unique trail in Johnston, Rhode Island, but the chiseled rock formations are perhaps the most stunning.
Brimming with wildflowers during the warmer months and brilliant foliage in the fall, Snake Den State Park's 1,000 undeveloped acres are some of the most stunning in Rhode Island.
Keep an eye out for the park's parking lot, which sits just beyond Dame Farm on Brown Avenue.
Dame Farm sits on the property of Snake Den State Park and is open seasonally for flower and apple picking and wagon rides.
The best way to explore is on one of the walking or hiking trails. If you don't have a lot of time, consider the 2.4-mile Snake Den North Loop Trail. It tallies just 2.5 miles and usually takes an hour to complete.
Gear up for a bit of a challenge. The trail scores a moderate rating due to some rocky terrain and muddy conditions after it rains.
Insect repellant is a must as the trail can get incredibly buggy. Check for ticks after your hike, too.
One of the highlights of the trail is the unique rock formations; you'll probably want to bring your camera.
You'll find a few of those rock formations form scenic overlooks with awe-inspiring views, especially...
