Little Rhodey is a shockingly flat state when you think about it. Our highest elevation point is an area in Foster called Jerimoth Hill at only 811 feet. Now this may leave you thinking that we don't have much when it comes to scenic overlooks in Rhode Island, but what we lack in elevation, we more than make up for in natural beauty. This hike in Cranston will hopefully prove that to you.
The 295 Cavern Overlook trail is about 1.5 miles in total and forms a nice easy loop that's perfect for a little adventure.
The hike is listed as moderate so it may not be the best for young or very inexperienced hikers, but it is pretty doable for most, and definitely more than worth the 45 minutes or so the hike will take.
It's probably a good idea to leave yourself some extra time for this loop, just because you will want to be able to stop and take in all the natural beauty.
There is some steep elevation to climb, but that makes the view all the more worth it! In the springtime there are stunning wildflowers to brighten up your route.
And while a view of route 295 might not sound so idyllic at first, this trail is waiting to prove you wrong.
When you reach the highest point, the views are absolutely jaw dropping. You will feel like you've climbed much further than you did to get to this view.
We recommend packing a little snack or even a nice picnic lunch to enjoy at the summit. Just make sure to bring something comfy to sit on, it can be rocky.
You definitely don't want to forget to bring your camera.
These views are so wildly impressive aren't they? At such a short distance and with such rewarding sights, we think this little hike is an absolute home run. Are you planning to hike the 295 Cavern Overlook Trail soon?
