A good hike out in nature can be so invigorating to the spirit. We all need a breath of fresh air after so much time inside, and we are lucky that Rhode Island has so many awesome places to get it. There are trails of all kinds around the state, and some come with extra little bonuses on top of their natural beauty. For example, this trail in Narragansett will lead you to some gorgeous ruins!
The Black Point trail in Narragansett is an easy 2.1-mile walk that is doable for hikers of all skill levels.
You get to see multiple types of terrain on this hike as well. The trail starts in a wooded area, but the majority of it gives you impressive seaside views, so there is a little bit of everything Rhode Island is famed for.
Make sure to bring a camera to snap some photos of all the exquisite beauty around you.
While this may be a short and relatively easy hike, if you have a penchant for exploring, maybe give yourself some extra time to see all this trail has to offer.
Of course, the big draw of this hike is the opportunity to spot the ruins on Scarborough beach!
This crumbling facade was once a massive 21-room mansion poetically named Windswept (likely for its proximity to the water.)
The property was built in 1895 by a wealthy Rhode Island family, known for creating what is possibly the world's first-ever nationally advertised chronic pain medication.
Over the years the home changed hands multiple times, and only after the third time it caught fire, were the ruins bought by the Department of Environmental Management.
The facade is now left to slowly crumble and wait for the rising tides to eventually take it into the ocean, but as of right now, it is still quite an impressive sight and a very beautiful mid-hike reward.
Are you excited to take some loved ones along on this hike and to observe the ruins yourself? We think this is the perfect choice for a day out among the trees and water.
