While we're fortunate to have a ton of places in Rhode Island to explore, some are less well known than others. You might say this cozy state park is one of those lesser known outdoor destinations that is well-worth a visit when you want to get away from it all.
One of the first things you'll likely notice about Snake Den State Park in Johnston, aside from its breathtaking natural beauty, is how quiet it is.
You'll find undeveloped land on this 1,000-acre oasis that's perhaps best known for its colorful flowers during the warmer months.

Home to a working farm, the cozy state park also offers several hiking trails, which you'll definitely want to check out.
Snake Den Lower Loop Trail, the longest at nearly three miles, is rated easy and usually takes just around an hour to complete.
For a shorter trek at just over 1.5 miles, follow the easy Snake Den Loop Trail. If you want a challenge, you'll find it along the Snake Den North and Power Loop Trail.
The moderately-rated trail tallies 2.5 miles and earns its rating from the rocky terrain and uphill climbs.
If you're visiting during the warmer months, lather on and bring the bug spray. The bugs are usually out in full force.
