However, if you're planning a multi-day adventure, make it at Rhode Island's largest state park. It offers a full menu of family-friendly activities and a campground, where you can fall asleep under a starry sky.
Tallying 3,100 acres, Burlingame State Park in Charlestown earns props as Rhode Island's largest state park and a family-friendly destination all year around.
If you want to visit the largest recreation area in Rhode Island, make your way to Arcadia Management Area. It measures more than 14,000 acres.
While you can see quite a bit in a single day at this spacious Rhode Island state park, you might want to make it a multi-day adventure.
Bring along your hiking shoes, because the best way to explore on foot is via one of the picturesque hiking trails.
The state park's three trails, considered moderate, lead to such beautiful sights as a covered bridge, where you can sit down for a breather on one of the benches, and Watchaug Pond.
If you're visiting during the summertime, bring along your beach gear. The spacious sandy beach is perfect for soaking up the sun before cooling off in Watchaug Pond.
The pond is also popular with boating, kayaking, and canoeing. With all there is to do, you'll probably need longer than a day at this natural oasis.
Even if you're not up for a swim, you can enjoy a waterfront picnic. The popular Rhode Island state park is dotted with picnic tables.
Up for a night or two at the park? Just be prepared for a primitive experience. The campground features 700 campsites and 20 cabins.
The campground has restrooms and showers. Cabins do not have utilities and while you'll have a bunk bed, you'll need to bring an air mattress and bedding.
