The Award-Winning Dutch Apple Pie From Pastiche Fine Desserts In Rhode Island Is A Must Try
Pastiche Fine Desserts in Providence, Rhode Island, is renowned for its Dutch apple pie, a winter menu favorite.
Rhode Island may be a small state, but we're big on decadent desserts, especially mouthwatering pies. Recently, Mental Floss named the best apple pie in all 50 states, and Rhode Island had a clear winner: The Dutch apple pie at Pastiche Fine Desserts. If you've never tried this delicacy, you're really missing out.
Pastiche Fine Desserts is located in Povidence, where it has been since 1983.
Eileen Collins and Brandt Heckert actually started the business years before, baking desserts for up-and-coming restaurants. The feedback was so overwhelmingly positive, they opened this charming cafe.
Amazingly, Eileen and Brandt had no formal training other than a love of food when they started baking.
This self-taught duo created one of the most beloved dessert shops in the state.
The little cafe sits on a small side street in the heart of Federal Hill.
And while you're welcome to take your orders to-go, you're also encouraged to stay and enjoy something sweet by the fireplace over a coffee.
Pastiche serves all kinds of tasty treats, from cakes and pies to scrumptious cannolis and seasonal delicacies...
... but what really puts them on the map is this amazing Dutch apple pie.
The pie is on the winter menu, and it's a best-seller. The filling is a mixture of sweet and tart apples from a local orchard, combined with cherries and baked beneath an oat walnut crumb topping. As a finish, it's decorated with pastry leaves.
Not only is the pie delicious, it's almost too pretty to eat (but you'll find a way).
Imagine this sitting on your table at Thanksgiving. Yum!
Pastiche is open every day but Monday, although hours vary.
They open at 8 a.m most days (10 a.m. on Sundays) and they stay open until 11 a.m. most nights (10 p.m. on Sundays). You can pre-order your pie a couple of days in advance, but if it's around a major holiday, you'll want to give two weeks' notice.
Try one of the Dutch apple pies at Pastiche before the end of winter -- trust us. And here are some other great places for pie in the Ocean State.
