Relax On Golden Sand At Charlestown Breachway In Rhode Island
Charlestown Breachway State Beach in Rhode Island offers stunning views, excellent fishing, and RV camping, making it a unique and underrated destination.
We don't mean to brag (or do we?), but Rhode Island has some seriously stunning beaches. And the best part is, each of our beaches has its own unique character, traits, and amenities. If you have yet to experience Charlestown Breachway State Beach, you're really missing out.
Charlestown is a sleepy little town in Washington County, with roots that date back to 1738.
This quiet state beach is the town's top attraction.
It all started in 1904, when the townsfolk asked the General Assembly for funding for a permanent breachway.
They argued that the natural breach was filled in by the tides depositing sand, which created a barrier that separated the pond from the ocean. The rest is history.
The beach is best known for its panoramic view of Block Island Sound.
It's absolutely incredible, especially in the summer.
This is also a well-known fishing spot, and you'll probably see other Rhode Islanders there trying their hand at saltwater fishing.
There's even an area for RV camping, although there are no accommodations for tent camping. Everything must be self-contained.
But what this beach makes up for in amenities, it makes up for in views.
People love to swim and sunbathe here on warm days, and they'll typically stick around for the sunset.
Charlestown Breachway State Beach is an underrated treasure.
And with summer fading to fall, you'll have plenty of opportunities to explore it without worrying about crowds.
With so many hidden gems like this, not to mention our more well-known public beaches, it's easy to see why Rhode Island is named the Ocean State. Do you have a favorite hidden beach spot in Rhode Island that you keep private for your own secret enjoyment?
