Pizza strips, party pizza – whatever you call it, slivers of a big rectangular pizza with sauce, garlic, and no cheese are quintessentially Rhode Island. This tasty treat is indeed perfect for a party – or a picnic, day at the beach, or lunch on a random Tuesday. Plenty of Rhode Island's Italian bakeries sell this favorite, but one stands out from the crowd.
D. Palmieri's in Johnston is part of a family bakery tradition that dates back to 1905. It's now a veritable institution beloved by the whole area.
Their party pizza is a fixture on many family's holiday tables, at birthday parties and football games, and the source of many happy childhood memories.
The perfectly chewy crust and flavorful savory sauce create a combination that'll keep you reaching for piece after piece.
And unlike some pizza strips, it's pretty easy to pick up and eat without making a huge mess – an important pizza strip trait in our book.
If you just can't do without cheese, you can also get a party pizza with cheese and pepperoni – or a perfect Fourth of July pie with olives standing in for the stars on the flag.
If you can't get enough pizza flavors, try their pizza crisps as well! They're absolutely scrumptious.
Of course, no Italian meal or snack is complete without dessert – their zeppoles are to die for.
You can find D. Palmieri's Bakery at 624 Killingly St., Johnston, RI 02919. If you've moved away from Rhode Island but are craving a taste of home – they ship their goodies!
