Winter's perfect for curling up under a blanket with a good book or in front of the fireplace. However, it just might be the best time of the year for outdoor lovers, too. From sledding to skiing, Pittsburgh offers a ton to do all winter long. If you've got a few free hours, you might also want to set off on this winter hike in Pittsburgh.
Bundle up, especially if it's one of those notoriously cold winter days in Pittsburgh, for your journey along the 2.7-mile Riverview Park Loop Trail.
A picturesque path that wanders through Riverview Park, the trail earns an easy rating from All Trails. If you've already hiked it in the warmer months, you'll definitely want to try it again during the winter.
You'll likely want to wear a pair of sturdy, warm boots, especially if you're setting off after a fresh snowfall, for your journey around the park that's considered "Pittsburgh's North Side Gem."
The picturesque path will lead you past snow-capped trees and over an enchanting footbridge.
Keep an eye out, too, for local wildlife, including deer quietly prancing through the snow. You can also bring your pup along on this dog-friendly trail.
The trail can get quite busy at times, so be prepared to run into other hikers. If you're hiking when there's snow on the ground, stay aware. That snow could be hiding slippery ice.
Riverview Park is also home to Allegheny Observatory, a University of Pittsburgh research center that welcomes guests on select evenings during the warmer months.
