Escape to These Charming Mountain Towns in Pennsylvania Before Fall Ends

Are the mountains calling your name this fall? Home to several mountain ranges, including the Poconos, Allegheny, and Blue Ridge, and charming mountain towns, Pennsylvania promises stunning views and outdoor adventure. So, if you need a mountain escape for the ultimate leaf-peeping experience, visit one of these towns in Pennsylvania this season:

1. Jim Thorpe

Nestled in the heart of the Poconos, Jim Thorpe has more of the look and feel of a European mountain village than an East Coast town. In fact, one of its nicknames is "The Switzerland of America" (although several other towns across the country share that distinction). During the fall months, the leaves change from green to vibrant, fiery tones, a magical display across the mountains. Aside from stunning fall colors, this Pennsylvania mountain town comes alive with seasonal fun and activities, including the Jim Thorpe Fall Festival, held over three weekends in October. Scenic trolley tours through town and scenic train rides through the Lehigh Gorge are also exceptional activities to partake in this fall. Adventure awaits in Jim Thorpe this season!

2. Milford

Another charming small town in the Pocono Mountains is Milford. Its downtown area is within walking distance of the entrance to Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area, where you can hike to Raymondskill Falls, the tallest falls in the state. As a gateway town with such easy access to a national park, Milford is a popular destination with much to offer. And what better way to experience all it offers than visiting in the fall?

Aside from enjoying the stunning fall foliage, Milford has a great sense of community, historic sites, shops, restaurants, and more, and is worth visiting. During the fall, the town hosts the Black Bear Film Festival, a one-day event in mid-October that attracts thousands of film fanatics. If you want to attend an Oktoberfest, Log Tavern Brewing Co. in downtown Milford hosts one on the first Saturday of October.

3. Stroudsburg

Stroudsburg is also in the Poconos, about five miles from the Delaware Water Gap. Its charming downtown area hosts various fall events, including Spooky Stroudsburg. Held a week before Halloween, the event invites visitors to stroll through downtown, where businesses will have spooky window displays and fun, family-friendly activities, including a scavenger hunt. You may also want to check out the Monroe Farmers' Market held on Saturdays in Courthouse Square. Pick up some seasonal produce and goodies from local vendors while you're there! This is one of my favorite things to do in the fall!
