A leisurely summer day at one of Pennsylvania's underrated lakes promises a whole lot of fun - from sunbathing on the sandy shore to kayaking in the sparkling blue water. Whatever defines your perfect summer day lakeside, you'll likely find it at Mauch Chunk Lake Park. In fact, it might even become your new favorite summer destination.
Nestled in Mauch Chunk Lake Park in the adorable town of Jim Thorpe, Mauch Chunk Lake offers an idyllic backdrop for a summer adventure.
If you're craving nothing but relaxation under the golden sun, drop your beach towel or chair on the sandy shoreline.
The beach welcomes beachgoers seasonally from Memorial Day through Labor Day. Just make sure you visit between 11 a.m. and 7 p.m., during which time a lifeguard will be on duty.
When you're not cooling off in the water, watch the kiddos play at the playground. Or, grab a bite to eat and a drink from the concession stand.
The park also features plenty of picnic tables, if you want to bring a picnic along.
If you're up for an adventure on the gorgeous 345-acre Mauch Chunk Lake, go boating. Bring your own, or rent a kayak, a canoe, or a paddleboat right at the park.
Your best bet is to make a reservation ahead of time since rentals are quite popular.
You might just find that a single day at the park isn't enough. Pitch a tent by the lake, or rent an adorable cottage. The campground features 135 camping spots and a camp store.
