The Pennsylvania Hike That Leads To The Most Unforgettable Destination

Turkey Path Trail in Pennsylvania offers challenging yet rewarding hikes with stunning views of Pine Creek Gorge and waterfalls.

Pennsylvania's trails often lead to sensational destinations, although some may prove much more challenging than others. Turkey Path Trail in Pennsylvania, for example, is brimming with natural beauty - from views of Pine Creek Gorge at the top to waterfalls at the bottom. However, it's also quite a difficult trail that requires some preparation. If you're up for the challenge, you'll be rewarded with some of the most awe-inspiring views in Pennsylvania.

The Turkey Path Trail, in Leonard Harrison State Park in Wellsboro, leads to the bottom of Pine Creek Gorge, more commonly known as the Grand Canyon of Pennsylvania.

Hikers rate the Turkey Path Trail as moderate. Some parts are more difficult than others, and the trail can get narrow in areas.

While Turkey Path Trail can get really busy (the views are second to none), the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) cautions that the trail is difficult.

If you read Turkey Path Trail reviews from hikers, you'll see that the rating waffles between moderate and difficult, depending on experience.

You'll be traveling one mile down to the bottom of the gorge and back up again. The pathway can be steep, and you'll face rocky, rough terrain and even slippery surfaces at times.

Despite the Turkey Path Trail difficulty, we think the views are worth the effort.

Make sure you're in good physical health, have plenty of food and water, and wear sturdy hiking boots for your journey along the two-mile out-and-back trail.

Typically well-maintained, the path features wooden stairs, handrails, and observation decks along the way.

You'll likely find the trek down to the bottom of Pine Creek Gorge is much easier than the climb back up. However, hikers do describe the journey down as "moderate."

The trail meanders past several waterfalls on your way to the bottom of the gorge.

Just be ready to get a workout when you're climbing back up.

If you need a break, you've found the perfect spot by one of the waterfalls. Take a deep breath, relax, and admire the waterfalls before continuing on your way.

At the bottom of the gorge, you'll come to Pine Creek, where you'll be treated to sensational views. (Crossing the creek isn't possible, so you'll have to return to the beginning of the trail the same way you came.)
