The Magnificent Bridge Trail Near Pittsburgh That Will Lead You To A Hidden Waterfall

Nature often surprises us. That's just one of the many things that makes hiking so much fun and so memorable. We never really know what we're going to encounter along our chosen hiking trail. This hiking trail near Pittsburgh, for example, begins and ends at an historic covered bridge and boasts plenty of natural beauty, including a hidden waterfall.
Discover an abundance of natural beauty when you embark on the Kildoo Trail, nestled in McConnells Mill State Park in Portersville.
The hiking trail, which spans just over three miles, is rated moderate. Be prepared for rocky terrain, stairs, and even some slick spots, especially after a rainfall or a snowfall.
Begin your hike along the loop trail at either end of the covered bridge. First, however, stop to admire the view of and from the historic Eckert Bridge.
If you're visiting between Memorial Day and the end of September, tour the Grist Mill (pictured above). Tours are offered from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. from Wednesday through Sunday.
If you're hiking on the weekend, especially during the warmer months and during fall foliage, expect the route to be pretty heavy with traffic. Other times, however, the trail can be quiet and peaceful.
Much of the trail is shaded by lush trees, protecting you from the sun's rays, especially during the summer.
Kildoo Trail winds along Slippery Rock Creek and boasts breathtaking, tumbling waterfalls.
It's definitely one of those trails that warrants a visit during each season. Fall, for example, is particularly spectacular when the leaves change.
