Located in Cloverdale, south of Tillamook on the Oregon Coast, Whalen Island is an enchanting place overflowing with serene natural beauty.

The Clay Myers State Natural Area is an untouched coastal estuarine ecosystem, bounded by the Sand Creek estuary.

Visitors can enjoy rustic camping and the magical chance to live by an estuary for a few days.

There are also plenty of short and sweet hiking trails to explore in the area. This looped forest trail is just 2 and a half miles long.

The waterway around Whalen Island is called Sandlake and it is shallow throughout, averaging just 2 feet deep. You'll can often spot kayakers paddling around during high tide.
