Satisfy your thirst for adventure on the Upper Klamath Canoe Trail! It's located inside the 15,000-acre Upper Klamath Refuge, just north of Klamath Falls.
Put in at either Rocky Point boat launch or Malone springs...
...then set out on your journey! This canoe trail is for day use only, so make sure to get an early start.
In pairs, most adults can paddle about two miles per hour, so use that baseline to plan your day.
The canoe trail stretches for 9.5 miles through some of Oregon's most beautiful landscapes.
You'll enjoy quiet solitude as you paddle through the water lilies of the freshwater marshes.
The vegetation in the marshes is interesting to view...
...but look up, and you'll see some pretty spectacular scenery as well. Bring your camera along to capture views of Mount McLoughlin.
You'll also catch a glimpse of the Crater Lake Rim in the distance.
This trail is certainly a great place to get some exercise, but you'll also want to pause your paddling occasionally to stop and admire the scenery.
Pack a lunch so you can stay out on this trail all day - just make sure you're back to your boat launch before it gets completely dark. It's definitely worth it to stick around for the sunset!
When you visit Upper Klamath Canoe Trail, make sure to practice Leave No Trace Principles. Don't disturb nesting birds, leave glass containers at home, and pack all your trash out with you.
