Our gorgeous state is well known for its vibrant green forests, city parks, and tree-lined streets. But Oregon isn't just evergreen. Each fall, many of our beloved trees also host an impressive rainbow of colors. And while you can pretty much walk in any direction to find a good spot to see this yearly natural spectacle, there are some truly fabulous fall views you won't want to miss.
One such little-known scenic spot to see fall colors in Oregon is Silver Falls State Park. This vibrant display of foliage is about 20 miles from our state capital, Salem. While this popular park is renowned for its many waterfalls and hikes, it is also a perfect, lesser-known place to go to see the mighty power of cooler, shorter days to reveal the vivid fall colors.
Get ready for breathtaking views of fall foliage at Silver Falls State Park.
Bonus: Since this park is Oregon's largest (about 36 square miles), there are tons of trails to explore, allowing you to discover your own favorite fall landscape within the park.
Soak in the rainbow of luscious greens, yellows, and oranges as you contemplate the impressive waterfalls.
Get in your steps as you enjoy viewing some (or all) of the 10 waterfalls on the grounds, including five that are over 100 feet high!
You'll also find wide lawns for playing games and lounging, picnic areas, barbecue stands, tables, a playground, horseshoe pits, and an off-leash area for dogs.
It's no wonder Oregon's Silver Falls State Park is often called the "crown jewel" of our state's park system.
In addition to hiking trails, there are miles of backcountry trails for mountain biking and horseback riding.
Brightly colored leaves blanket the well-maintained trails. Look for helpful signposts to lead you on your journey.
Stunning color accents the power of the rushing water.
Everywhere you look is another beautiful homage to fall.
If you can't make it in time for the fall colors, don't fret. This park is gorgeously green most of the year, so you're in for a visual delight no matter which season you visit.
For a meal before or after your visit to the park, try The Gingerbread House in nearby Mehama for delightful breakfasts, burgers, desserts, and gingerbread! Be sure to pack road trip snacks, too.
