This Extraordinary Forest Hike In Oregon Is One Of A Kind
The Wildwood Recreation Site near Welches offers a family-friendly, wheelchair-accessible hiking experience with an underwater viewing area of the Salmon River.
Located near Welches, the Wildwood Recreation Site is a beautiful area full of babbling rivers, old growth trees, wetlands, and more. It's also home to the extraordinary Cascade Streamwatch Trail, a short hike that leads through stunning scenery to an incredible underwater viewing area where you can peer through a large window into the Wild and Scenic Salmon River.
The Cascade Streamwatch Trail, located within the beautiful Wildwood Recreation Area, is an incredible hiking trail that will lead you on an unforgettable adventure.
The trail winds through lush green scenery alongside the Salmon River.
The walk is only 0.75 miles long, and it's easy to do. This paved, leisurely trail is wheelchair accessible and fun for the whole family.
One unforgettable highlight of the trail is the underwater viewing chamber.
You'll step into a room that allows you to peer through large windows right into the Salmon River. You'll see the flowing water with speckled light filtering through, and at the right times of year you'll be able to see fish swimming past.
The area is dotted with educational plaques and sculptures.
For a slightly longer excursion, you can pair the Cascade Streamwatch Trail with the Wetlands Trail, a breathtaking boardwalk trail that leads through unique wetlands scenery. This trail is also a .75-mile loop.
While you're here, there are plenty of opportunities to relax, play, and explore. Feel free to pack a lunch or snack, as there are many lovely picnic areas.
The Wildwood Recreation Site has a $5 day pass fee. This beautiful, family friendly outing is simply wondrous.
