The Travertine Creek Trail In Oklahoma Takes You To Little Niagara Falls And Back
Chickasaw National Recreation Area in Oklahoma offers scenic views, waterfalls, and hiking trails, including the must-visit Travertine Creek Trail.
Oklahoma is home to some beautiful places and one of my favorites is the Chickasaw National Recreation Area in Sulphur. The area has been called an 'oasis in the prairie' and it's a place every Oklahoman should visit at least once. It's filled with gorgeous views, waterfalls, streams, hiking trails, beautiful wildlife, and natural sulfur springs. The Travertine Creek Trail will take you to a hidden gem - Little Niagara Falls - and it's a hike you don't want to miss. Check it out below:
The Travertine Creek Trail is located in the Chickasaw National Recreation Area in Sulphur, Oklahoma, about 10 miles to the east of I-35.
It's a 2.8-mile out-and-back trail that offers scenic views and is good for all skill levels.
The trail will take you to a little waterfall that's been nicknamed Oklahoma's Little Niagara. Here, the water maintains an average temperature of 65 degrees year-round, and it's one of the most peaceful spots in the state.
The trail is accessible year-round and is heavily shaded, so it's a great summer hike. But it's particularly breathtaking in the fall, when the leaves begin to change.
As you are hiking, you will meander along the edge of Travertine Creek. It can get muddy after it rains, so be sure to wear appropriate shoes.
There are several detours along the way if you want to venture off the path to one of the nearby water sources. There are a few inclines, but for the most part, the trail is easy.
You'll also pass over a few bridges during your hike. The trail begins at the Visitor's Center parking lot, so be on the lookout for the signs.
