There Hasn’t Been A Single Tornado In Oklahoma Yet This Year And It’s Breaking Records

Oklahoma is experiencing a historic tornado drought with zero tornadoes recorded so far in 2018.

Good news, Oklahomans! The Sooner State is experiencing a tornado drought and for the first time in history, we've had zero tornadoes this far into the year.

As a state that is normally setting records for massive tornadoes, it's nice to be on the other side of the coin for once. On April 26, 2018, Oklahoma broke a record for going the entire year so far without a tornado.

On average, Oklahoma sees about 12 tornadoes during the month of April. In 2012 we experienced the most ever in the month of April with 54.

Needless to say, we are off to a good start in 2018. As a state with some of the highest tornado odds per square mile, we'll gladly take our tornado drought with a smile.

But remember, May is normally our most active month for tornadic activity. Always be prepared and stay up-to-date on the latest weather alerts.

Please note: Next Tuesday/Wednesday look volatile for Oklahoma. Please stay alert and have plans in place for severe weather.

Oklahoma has seen its fair share of deadly tornadoes. Take a look at this up-close footage of a violent tornado in Katie, Oklahoma, in 2016.
