The Easy 1-Mile Winter Hike In Oklahoma That’s Positively Bewitching
Some of the best hiking days in Oklahoma are during the winter without all the bugs and humidity. If you're ready to shed some of those extra pounds you piled on over the holidays, I found the perfect place to go for an easy 1-mile winter hike in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Turkey Mountain Urban Wilderness Area is a 300-acre outdoor haven on the west banks of the Arkansas River and offers stunning, panoramic views of Tulsa.
Turkey Mountain Urban Wilderness is located at 6492 S Elwood Ave, Tulsa. The main entrance is accessed off of 67th and South Elwood on the west side of the Arkansas River.
Once you reach the top of Turkey Mountain there is a nice parking lot with boulders, pavilion, trailheads...
And new restroom facilities.
The area is heavily wooded and is a relaxing, hidden area in the Tulsa area. There are two trails that are around 1 mile in length at Turkey Mountain.
The Red Trail is a 0.8-mile loop that is perfect for beginners. It takes about 20 minutes to walk the loop.
The trail is paved and is fairly even which makes it the easiest and shortest trail at Turkey Mountain.
The Blue Trail is a 1.5-mile loop that wanders into the heart of Turkey Mountain. It has steep sections and is more difficult than The Red Trail.
Even though the Blue Trail is a bit more difficult, it offers a great hike. The trail takes you to the top of Turkey Mountain and leads you by a pond before taking you back to the trailhead.
Oklahoma is full of beautiful winter days that are perfect for hiking but if you're looking for a place to go even when there's snow on the ground, Turkey Mountain is a great choice.
Dogs are allowed in the Wilderness but must be on a leash.
The secluded areas in Turkey Mountain offer peace and quiet and stunning views of Tulsa.
Turkey Mountain is one of the best places to hike in the state and is open from dawn to dusk.
