There are thousands of acres to explore in the Wichita Mountains in Oklahoma. Not all are accessible by hiking, so it's more like hundreds of acres you can enjoy by foot. This beautiful area is home to over two dozen hiking trails, making it one of the most popular areas in the state for hiking.
Some people hike multiple smalls trails, while others set out on the more advanced, longer hikes. One of our favorite shorter hikes is along the Jed Johnson Tower Trail.
This short hike is only 1.4-miles out and back and is rated as easy. It's a great one to explore if you bring the kids along.
Along the way there are pleasant views of Jed Johnson Lake with epic mountain views in all directions.
It only takes about 30 minutes but there are many places along the way to stop and explore. Who else could just soak up this beauty all day long?
Dogs are allowed on the trail if they are on a leash. Good tennis shoes for everyone in the family are highly recommended, as you will encounter small stones along the dirt path.
Once you reach the tower, the views really open up and you can see for miles and miles. It's truly a beautiful hike year-round.
