Some people may be surprised to find out that there are mountains in Oklahoma. Yet, residents of the Sooner State know that some of the best hiking in the state can be found in the Wichita Mountains in southwestern Oklahoma. Narrows Trail is a 2.7-mile out-and-back trail. Although the trail is fairly short, the rocky terrain and water crossing make it a bit challenging. Yet, it's fun for all ages and well worth a visit.

Follow the trail down into the narrows. The canyon has crystal clear water at the bottom. Be cautious near the water, do not cross if it is high and moving swiftly.
Every so often the trail disappears into the rocks. However, it's easy to get back on track. From here the hike can be harder, but only if you choose to climb rocks and scramble up the mountain.
Wichita Mountains is a great place to spot wildlife and wildflowers. Along the trail, keep your eyes peeled for lizards, snakes, birds, and other small mammals.
Explore the mountain top and soak up the views. Pack a lunch to enjoy when you reach the summit. It's a great place to relax before heading home.
