You Might Not Like These Predictions About Cleveland’s Upcoming Cold And Snowy Winter

The gorgeous autumnal hues bring with them an ominous message for Clevelanders; winter is coming, and it's bringing with it an infectious dose of cabin fever. Locals in the snow belt know exactly why so many born-and-raised Clevelanders become snowbirds and flee for the south once winter hits, and the changing leaves as of late have caused everyone to begin making predictions about the upcoming winter. Most people have been feeling that "we're in for it" when it comes to the winter months... and, as it turns out, they may be right.

In Northeast Ohio, winter is a beautiful and frigid season that always seems to linger just a tad bit too long.

Cleveland averages roughly 61 inches of snow per year, and its suburbs often get even more thanks to lake effect weather. That's nearly 40 inches above the national average!

Once fall rolls around, many locals start keeping an eye out for old man winter.

Nothing ruins fall fun quite like a seasonal overlap. There's nothing more depressing than trick-or-treating in the snow, but it has happened throughout Cleveland's history.

However, rumors of a mild winter this year may just be optimism breaking through the ice... it's supposed to be a chilly one!

Each year, the the Farmers’ Almanac offers a long-range weather outlook, and this year's predictions will give you the cold shoulder.

This year, the Farmer's Almanac has predicted a chillier winter for most of the country...

Everywhere, even the Southwest, is in for a bit of chill this season.

...and the Great Lakes is in for quite a bit of snowfall.

The Great Lakes and Ohio Valley are in the "biting cold, snowy" zone, predicted to be hit by an arctic front that will drop temperatures and bring a bit of precipitation with it.

Fortunately, the snowiest months should be January and February, offering us a full season of fall fun.

However, the almanac also predicts we may see a late start to our spring. Storms, they say, may bring snow and ice back to our region circa March.

Cleveland winters are lovely, but we may be in for a long one.

The secret to winter happiness is to fight cabin fever with everything you've got!

Fortunately, winter is still just a distant thought... for now.

Winter is a beautiful time in The Land, but it's a freezing season full of lake effect precipitation and cabin fever. This year's upcoming season may be colder than the last few, but we Clevelanders will still find a way to make it memorable.

Don't want to think about the upcoming winter? That's okay! You may enjoy reminiscing about these weird moments in Cleveland winters past.
