The Enchanting Covered Bridge Hike In Ohio That’s Perfect For An Autumn Day
With colorful leaves, apple orchards, and breaking out the sweaters and boots once again, there’s little better than autumn in Ohio. And while we love all of the phenomenal autumn activities found across the state, one of our favorite ways to spend an autumn afternoon is with a leisurely hike. In particular, this phenomenal trail of covered bridges in Ohio is at the top of our fall bucket list. Let’s lace up our hiking boots and get to it, shall we? Adventure awaits.
Nestled within the Mohican Memorial State Forest between Columbus and Cleveland, the Pleasant Hill Dam Trail features stunning landscapes, postcard-worthy views, and enough variation to keep everyone in the family entertained.
Although this 2.3-mile heavily trafficked trail is rated as moderate, is both well maintained and worth your energy and time.
You can begin the trail at either this quaint and beautiful covered bridge or the Pleasant Hill Dam. The choice is yours entirely, but today, we’ll start at the covered bridge.
The trail leads adventurers along the picturesque Mohican River...
...through a lush forest that comes alive with fall foliage...
...and to the bottom of this grassy hill. Stop here to enjoy a picnic lunch, or continue up the steps to the top of the hill to see the dam. Though the stairs are steep, the views once you reach the top are truly remarkable.
This 113-foot earth-filled dam is truly a thing of beauty. Catch your breath, take in the views of the 783-acre Pleasant Hill Lake, and snap a few photographs.
Don’t forget to bring your camera! From the remarkable river to unique rock formations, jaw-dropping views abound on this phenomenal trail.
If you’d like to continue hiking, we suggest taking a detour to the neighboring Big and Little Lyons Falls, a duo of low-flow cascading waterfalls that will take your breath away.
This hidden gem is beautiful in every season, but we're partial to basking in the crisp autumn air while we hike.
This phenomenal trail is located within Mohican Memorial State Forest at 975 ODNR Mohican Rd. 51, Perrysville, OH 44864. Once you enter the park, follow signs to the Covered Bridge where you will begin your hike.
If you love covered bridges in Ohio, you will definitely want to embark on this unique trip to many of the coolest covered bridges in the state.
