The Gorgeous, Little-Known Lake Is One Of The Most Underrated Fishing Spots In Greater Cleveland

There's just something peaceful about fishing, isn't there? The shaded trails, the peaceful rustling of leaves, the occasional splash of a fish breaking the surface... If you find the right fishing spot near Cleveland, you'll enjoy a trip surrounded by a symphony of nature’s finest sounds. And whether you’re casting a line, enjoying a quiet picnic, or simply soaking in the tranquil beauty, Shadow Lake in the Cleveland Metroparks offers a perfect escape from the bustle of everyday life. Locals can't help but covet the fishing opportunities here, and the park is a bit of a hidden gem, meaning it feels like a secret fishing spot. Check it out:

Tucked away in South Chagrin Reservation is a dazzling little lake that's a fisherman's paradise.

Shadow Lake is shaped very loosely like a horseshoe, and it's surrounded by trees on all sides. Its southwestern portion is the deepest part of the lake, reaching depths of 10 feet.

At four acres in size, this lake is intimate while feeling vast enough that you're not stepping on other fishers' toes.

The lake is stocked by the Cleveland Metroparks' Natural Resources department, so there's always great fishing opportunity no matter the season. In the colder months, in-the-know locals love this spot as an ice-fishing destination.

Bass, catfish, and trout are among the various species you may catch here.

Rainbow trout are an especially coveted catch, and they're released when lakes are ice-free in the spring. According to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, these hatchery-raised fish measure 10 to 13 inches at release.

Surrounded by forest, there's no shortage of nature-watching and hiking here.

Birding hikes are popular here, and it's no secret why. More than 100 species have been spotted here, and many more have been seen throughout the area. Keep your eyes peeled, and bring some binoculars if you have them.

And whether or not you come for the fishing, it's a lovely place for a picnic.

If you're looking for a picnic spot in Solon, Ohio, then Shadow Lake needs to be on your radar. Compared to many bigger portions of the Cleveland Metroparks, this spot feels like a hidden gem. It just doesn't get as much traffic, though in-the-know locals are no strangers to return trips.

With shaded areas, grills, and restrooms, you could easily spend hours here catching up with friends.

As with any hiking spot, wear sunscreen, stay hydrated, and protect your face from the sun with a shady hat. You'll appreciate the shady trees when you sit down to relax, but when you're moving closer to the lake, those extra preparations will be much appreciated.

And no matter the season, the quiet beauty of this spot is truly unrivaled.

Whether covered in snow or veiled in shades of rust, this lovely landscape is always a treat.
