Outdoor enthusiasts have a lot to love about the Buckeye State; not only is Ohio home to a gorgeous national park and a robust state parks system, but the trails that crisscross through the state are often incredibly accessible *and* not very crowded. In short, if you want to escape into the forest a la John Muir, there are many opportunities to do that here. Today's feature hike is a triple threat of bridges, waterfalls, and wildlife, that, when combined with the its ease and seclusion, makes for an Ohio trail that can't be beat.
One of the most beautiful waterfalls in Ohio is an enchanting cascade in the enchanting town of Dublin. This is a town teeming with verdant gardens and scenic splendor; the kind of place where you'd expect to find a pot of gold at the end of the waterfall.
Indian Run Falls isn't a pot of gold, per se, but any outdoor enthusiast argue that it's an even better reward for your hiking efforts.
This bewitching waterfall is found along the eponymous Indian Run Falls Trail, a 0.9 mile out-and-back trek that's considered easy and accessible for beginners.
The hike traverses some of the most lush and vibrant forests in central Ohio, full of towering trees and secret nooks and crannies straight out of a Tolkien tale...
...like this! I am a helpless tree hugger and fascinated by these gentle giants. Finding a tree that you can climb inside and really experience is something that makes my heart so happy.
Of course, the falls are the main attraction of the Indian Run Falls trail. At 12 feet tall, this is certainly not the tallest waterfall in Ohio, but the surrounding scenery and ease of access make it a waterfall worthy of chasing. The falls are naturally fuller following a rain, so if it's a sonorous spectacle you're seeking, time your visit after heavy showers!
In addition to the flora, fauna, and falls, there are lots of places to sit and really revel in the resplendence of this magical little hike.
Of course, you might be inspired to do some meditation or yoga on the smooth banks of the waterfall-fed pool... and I wouldn't discourage that, either!
Just don't swim or dive into the falls -- it's prohibited and very dangerous. Safety first, friends.
Have you hiked the Indian Run Falls Trail in Dublin? Do you agree that it's a can't-beat Ohio trail? The amount of scenic splendor packed into this short-and-sweet package surely makes this one to seek out -- just don't forget your hiking poles, because the trail can be a bit slippery after it rains.
