Hiding in dense rainforest in North Carolina, just eight miles from Cashiers, is 26 miles of pristine shoreline, islands perfect for a pit stop, three waterfalls, and the highest elevation lake east of the Mississippi. Lake Glenville in North Carolina is a beautiful reservoir with turquoise water, gorgeous scenery, and the perfect spot for every type of outdoor enthusiast.
Anytime of day, Lake Glenville is simply beautiful. Situated amongst rolling hills, with wide open spaces and dense forest coves, it's the perfect place to spend the day away from the world.
The 1500-acre lake offers plenty to do for a day or even a weekend. At 3,500 ft. above sea level, the high elevation offers stunning Blue Ridge views. Water from the lake is fed by five mountain streams, making it not only crystal clear in certain areas, but super clean and refreshing for a dip.
Those who travel here enjoy plenty of water activities, like boating, fishing, kayaking, canoeing, and even exploring waterfalls!
Even if you want to stay out of the water, there are places to grill out, walk around, take a hike and even the Pines Recreation Area with free admission that includes a beach.
One unique feature of Lake Glenville is that it's home to three beautiful waterfalls. The waterfalls are accessible only by boat. The first is Hurricane Falls (pictured above).
Second, Norton Falls.
The third, Mills Creek Fall. Boaters love stopping and splashing around in the unique environment, and you will too!
If you need more reasons to visit, Romantic Asheville made a great video exploring the gorgeous lake! It's almost like being right there.
