The Bakers Mountain Trail Is One Of The Best Waterfall Hikes In North Carolina
We're fortunate to have so many to choose from when it comes to naming the best waterfall trail in North Carolina. And while epic waterfalls exist with more than 400-foot drops, sometimes the most memorable experiences feature the little sights. The one at the top of our list sits in the enchanted land of Bakers Mountain Park near Hickory. Bakers Mountain Trail is a 3.2-mile loop trail rated as a moderately challenging route that gives perfect views of a small but magical waterfall and an extraordinary overlook of the mountains.
You'll find Bakers Mountain Park at the highest elevation point (1,780 feet) in Catawba County.
The park features 189 acres of beautiful forest with almost six miles of picturesque trails with a variety of terrain.
Bakers Mountain Trail is well-marked with some steep inclines whether you take the clockwise or counter-clockwise route.
The hike is mostly shaded which is a great feature for those hot, humid days.
Look for clues of life before, such as the ruins of this chimney left over from an old homestead.
The gazebo is a nice touch and a great place to enjoy a picnic in the woods if you feel like you need a rest.
Benches are located along the way to enjoy the view of the creek and the waterfall.
Most folks find it's just about the perfect size.
Another lovely view comes from the wooden observation deck.
From here you can see the pretty Catawba Valley and the distant mountains.
