This fall, we are going to take some time out our busy life, and do a bit of leaf peeping. There are all sorts of great spots around New York State to take in the changing fall colors, but one under-the-radar destination deserves a bit more attention. That's right, we are talking about Poets' Walk Park, which exists in the town of Red Hook, New York. Poets' Walk Park has a rich history and makes for a great outing this fall. It might just be one of the best spots to check out fall foliage in Hudson Valley, New York. To learn more, keep reading, below.
Poets’ Walk Park is located in Red Hook, on the east side of the Hudson River.
The park was created around 1850 by replacing a farmland area with a landscaped garden—it was conceptualized as being a perfect nature walk through a variety of “outdoor rooms.”
Though the park was originally named Steen Valetje—Little Stony Falls in Dutch—it was changed to Poets’ Walk Park in honor of the writers that used to stroll through the park. Those writers: Fitz-Green Halleck, Washington Irving, and many more.
The park offers great views of the Hudson River, Catskills, and the Kingston-Rhinecliff Bridge.
There are also plenty of great Arts and Crafts-style pavilions and benches that visitors can use to really take in the foliage.
The park is open every single day, starting at 8:30 a.m., with closing time at 7:30 p.m. between October 1st and October 31st, and 6:00 p.m. between November 1st and March 13th.
For an amazing autumn afternoon, give Poets' Walk Park a try. Trust us when we say that it provides some of the best leaf peeping in all of New York State. While in the Hudson Valley area, why not check out this legally haunted house, which makes for a great destination this spooky season—the house dates all the way back to 1900. And, for those looking for accommodation after their trip to Poets' Walk Park, we recommend the Hampton Inn, Kingston, which is six miles away from Red Hook.
