Buffalo’s Zoo Is One Of The Oldest In The U.S. Here’s What Makes It Timeless
The Buffalo Zoo is the third oldest zoo in the United States, welcoming roughly 400,000 visitors each year. So... what makes this place so great that it can withstand the test of time? Read on to see why we love the zoo – and why you should too!
The Buffalo Zoo is located in Delaware Park at 300 Parkside Avenue.
The gates to enter the zoo are beautifully built and ticketing almost always runs smoothly. Pro tip: grab a membership pass if you plan on frequent visits.
There are so many animals to learn about and enjoy!
Of course, what would a zoo be without an elephant exhibit? The Buffalo Zoo's elephants can be found splashing around, spraying water from their trunks, covering themselves with hay, and giving a part of the zoo's soundtrack with their playful sounds.
No need for a safari – just head downtown!
Tigers and lions and bears, oh my! But don't forget these tall beauties (and our personal favorites)... the giraffes! At the Buffalo Zoo, you can get up close and personal with this majestic animal.
One word: BABIES!
One reason the Buffalo Zoo is so timeless is because it continues to add new youth! The baby animals at the zoo are incredibly cute, but they do more than just attract new visitors. They also keep the zoo running and their species thriving!
It wouldn't be a Buffalo Zoo without a few bison!
Recently named the official animal of the U.S., the American Bison has always been number one in our books here in Buffalo! You can see them lounging around the zoo – perfect for your Buffalove photo ops.
There are so many exhibits to enjoy.
The next time you head to the zoo, be sure to check out the reptile exhibit, rainforest exhibit, and gorilla exhibit; these areas are amazing to explore. It really feels like you're in another world when you're at the Buffalo Zoo!
The zoo is a great place for little ones.
Children absolutely adore the zoo, and it's not hard to see why! Between the giant sandbox where you can dig for dinosaur bones, carousel, and train, there are so many fun things for kids to love. Not to mention the playground and petting zoo area. The zoo is an all day family affair!
It's great for adults, too!
Along with educational exhibits and kid-friendly areas, the zoo also hosts adult-friendly events, such as "Wines in the Wild," a Harvest Festival, and more. You can sip your favorite drinks while learning about the zoo and its inhabitants!
