When it comes to exploring New York's gorges, there's no better region of our state to visit than the Finger Lakes. While you can certainly find other notable gorges hidden away throughout our state, the ones that lie within this region are simply out of this world. Some gorge trails in the Empire State have become famous throughout the country, like Watkins Glen and Letchworth State Parks, but you can also find others that will take you a bit more off the beaten path. If you're ready to experience a true adventure that'll get your feet wet, then prepare to explore Conklin's Gully.
Part of the High Tor Wildlife Management Area, Conklin's Gully offers one of the most exciting hikes in all of New York.
Taking you just south of Canandaigua Lake, Conklin's Gully allows you to experience all our favorite things about the Finger Lakes Region.
The main trail at Conklin's Gully leads you right through a gorge, where you can expect to literally get your feet wet as you scale up waterfalls and cross over creeks.
Leading you out into the serene forest, you'll quickly begin to feel like you're Indiana Jones as you make your way through the gully.
Surrounding you with 100-foot stone walls and lush greenery, you'll feel like you're in another world as you hike along this trail.
To many, the main trail at Conklin's Gully is referred to as the 12 Falls Trail - any guesses as to why?
That's right! You can expect to see over ten different waterfalls as you hike through the gully, ranging in size from small cascading falls along the creek to more than 50-foot tall natural wonders.
With ropes set up to lead you up alongside waterfalls, it's needless to say that you'll want to be wearing a sturdy (and waterproof) pair of shoes for this hike.
Those who have already had the pleasure of discovering this slightly challenging hike will be quick to tell you that no matter the difficulty, it's one of their favorite and most exciting trails to explore.
If you're ready to enjoy a hike that will bring out the adventurer in you, then head out to the village of Naples to go exploring through Conklin's Gully in the High Tor Wildlife Management Area!
