9 Hilariously Bizarre Ways All Buffalonians Have Hoped For Snow Days

Discover the best hiking trails in the Pacific Northwest, known for their stunning scenic views and diverse landscapes.

As a city that gets more than a fair amount of snow, it should come as no surprise that we know how to handle it pretty well. Our road maintenance crews are on the top of their game come winter, so it's not often that a storm will catch us off guard. But that doesn't mean we lose hope in the potential of a glorious day off from school or work when we hear of an impending snow storm. Here are 9 hilariously bizarre superstitions and ways Buffalonians have hoped for snow days.

1. Track the forecast and hope the snow is expected to hit at *exactly* the right time.

2. Wear your pajamas inside out and backwards.

You can't choose one or the other. It has to be both!

3. Put a spoon in your freezer.

We're not sure why this one makes sense, but who are we to judge superstition?

4. Speaking of spoons...

While you're in the silverware drawer, you better grab an extra spoon to place under your pillow if you want a snow day.

5. Do your best snow dance.

Head outside in your inside out and backwards pajamas to perform your best snow dance ritual. If you live in Buffalo, we can almost guarantee your neighbors won't think twice!

6. Flush a few ice cubes down the toilet.

Tradition says you should flush one cube for every inch you hope will fall overnight. To bring on a Buffalo snow day, you would likely need to flush between 12 and 24 cubes.

7. Eat ice cream for dinner!

What kid would EVER complain about this one? Even if you don't get a snow day the next morning, this tradition is a win.

8. Tape paper snowflakes to the window.

Not only are paper snowflakes a fun craft to do with the kids - they also have the ability to bring snow days (...maybe).

9. Use reverse psychology.

What Buffalonian hasn't gone to bed with the thoughts of, "Maybe if I hope we *don't* have a snow day tomorrow, we really will?!" (Raises hand.)

With the Lake Effect machine up and running for the season, we may or may not be going to bed practicing ritual #2 on the regular. What are some weird ways you've hoped for snow days in the past? Share your superstitions with us in the comments below!
