The Breathtaking Place In New Mexico Where You Can Watch Wild Horses Roam

While no longer a common sight to behold, wild horses still roam freely over parts of the US. New Mexico has its own special place, found in the north-central part of the Land of Enchantment, where these beautiful wild herds reside amongst the Sandia Mountains and countrysides. Thanks to caring New Mexicans, sanctuaries are being created to help keep wild horses safe. Here's more about the breathtaking place where there are both preserves as well as unencumbered areas where wild horses in New Mexico still roam free:

Wild horses still reside throughout the Jemez, Sandia and Manzano mountains and north to the Galisteo Basin in New Mexico.

Passersby through the area can often find the horses in their natural habitat.

Some view the wild horses as a nuisance.

Horses get on the roadways, disrupt land areas by eating all the grass which encourages erosion, and may fall to ill health due to drought and other conditions.

Horse sanctuaries are helping to protect many of the horses.

Advocates support the wild horses maintaining their wild lifestyle, but have water and other services provided.

The beautiful herds are truly a historic part of New Mexico's landscape.

While some are now protected in preserves, others still roam the beautiful landscapes.

To see the wild horses, head to Placitas in Sandoval County. Placitas has a population of about 5,000.
