Wining and dining are great and all, but personally, I think traditional date nights are a bit stale. I much prefer more unconventional outings with my partner, like taking a hike that leads to breathtaking views, and the Santa Cruz Lake Overlook Trail checks that box and then some. This romantic hiking trail in New Mexico is short and sweet, not too difficult, and boasts sweeping views of Santa Cruz Lake and the surrounding mountainous landscape. It’s the perfect Valentine’s Day adventure if you’re looking to grow closer to your special someone by spending quality time together in nature.

At just 1.5 miles round-trip, the Santa Cruz Lake Overlook Trail is well-maintained, easy to follow, and suitable for hikers of all levels. It has an elevation gain of just over 330 feet, and most of the challenge is on the return trip, so you can enjoy an easy start while your muscles warm up.

The lake is never hidden from view, so you can marvel at its pristine waters the whole time you’re hiking. There’s such a stark contrast between the deep blue hue of the lake and the clay-colored hills dotted with lush greenery, making for a picturesque scene you can’t help but fall in love with.
