We all know there is plenty of natural beauty scattered throughout the Land of Enchantment, and there's plenty of protected land in the form of national and state parks. With a total of two national park sites and 35 state parks, we can spend our lives exploring nature around the state. One New Mexico state park is hiding out in Guadalupita, a small village in Mora County. Coyote Creek State Park may not be as well-known as other state parks, but it's so worth visiting.
Set in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains an hour away from Taos is a little-known, underrated state park. Coyote Creek State Park sits at an elevation of 7,667 feet in the small unincorporated community of Guadalupita.
Coyote Creek State Park is small at just 84 acres, but it packs in plenty of natural beauty. Experience it for yourself as you explore the park's forests, creek, and valley.
Everywhere you look there are gorgeous views of the mountains and valley. There is a trail that circles through the park and is one way to enjoy exploring what it has to offer.
The river that runs through Coyote Creek State Park is the Rio Coyote. If you love to fish, fly fishing is a popular sport here.
Aside from hiking and fishing, this is a great park for camping. While you can book your reservation online, there are a few non-reservation sites as well as an area for primitive camping.
Camping at Coyote Creek Park is the perfect way to get away from it all - especially since it's not as well-known as other New Mexico state parks. You won't have to experience the same crowds as you would at a more popular state park.
