If you follow Only In New Jersey, you may already know that I recently began writing a spotlight series. I'll be covering a wide variety of delightful Garden State towns, all requested or recommended by readers. We've got so many cities and towns to love, all of which make wonderful day trip destinations. Each locale featured will be a prime destination for foodies, with fun activities to enjoy in addition to a good meal. Our series started with Madison, New Jersey and is continuing with Mount Holly.
First, a few fun facts. Mount Holly is the seat of Burlington County. It was first settled by Europeans in 1677 and now has a population of about 10,000 residents. The Battle of Iron Works Hill was fought here in 1776 and that battle is reenacted each December. Check it out, and visit one (or more) of the five fantastic restaurants below.
The Robin's Nest is a unique eatery that offers French-American cuisine.
They've got food, drinks, catering, and even wedding packages! You'll find plenty of entertainment as well, including live music, tarot readings, comedians, and more. Visit for Sunday brunch or try the rack of lamb. You'll also want to choose something sweet from the dessert menu - the Hershey's Chocolate Cake, Cannoli Cake, and Peanut Butter Mousse Pie are favorites.
Dempster's Pub is a lively spot where friends become family.
That's their motto! Whether you're looking for family or not, you'll love catching the game here or participating in their shuffleboard league. A visit is always a good time! Try their famous buffalo wings or slow cooked BBQ pulled pork.
Mount Holly International Buffet offers everything from soup to sushi.
Dinner is the best time to visit. Fill yourself to the brim with delicious spring rolls, strip steak, snow crab, sushi, and more. Even the pickiest eaters will enjoy their pizza, chicken nuggets, and mozzarella sticks. Vegetarian-friendly options and plenty of desserts are also available.
Kitchen 87 is a hip breakfast and lunch spot with delicious twists on classic favorites.
You can build your own omelette, create the sandwich of your dreams, or design a delectable burger. We love how you can customize almost anything! The menu is scratch-made and everything is delicious.
Downtown Pizza & Italian Grill serves up some of the best pizza in town.
This BYOB spot offers budget-friendly lunch specials and plenty of pizza options. Try the buffalo chicken or cheesesteak hoagie pies!
While in town, check to see if there's anything going on at the Mill Race Theatrical Company.
While they're currently on winter break (until 1/20/20), they put on quite the event each autumn - the Theater of Fear!
And you absolutely can't miss the Historic Burlington County Prison Museum.
You'll enjoy one of the spookiest tours in South Jersey, while learning all about the prison's sordid past. There's murder and mayhem - it's absolutely fascinating.
Other spots worth checking out include the Village Idiot Brewing Company, Spellbound Brewing, and Iron Works Park.
