Seeing Niagara Falls is basically a universal bucket list — everybody wants to witness the famous waterfall for themselves. But you don't actually have to head over to Canada to see a jaw-dropping waterfall. New Jersey actually has a Niagara Falls of its own: one of the greatest natural wonders in the US, Great Falls on the Passaic River in Paterson, New Jersey is the kind of waterfall that will make your jaw drop, we promise.
The Paterson Great Falls National Historical Park is one of the prettiest places you can visit in New Jersey.
The Great Falls are a whopping 77 feet tall and it packs a punch — both in terms of volume of water and in sheer beauty.
Look at all that water! It's truly awe-inspiring.
The Great Falls aren't just a gorgeous landmark. They also helped spur Paterson, New Jersey as a center of industry in the 1700s and the 1800s.
Plus, the falls have inspired plenty of artists, too. The Adam Driver movie "Paterson" features the falls, and you can spot them in the pilot episode of "The Sopranos," too.
There are multiple overlooks so you can see this waterfall from different angles. Each view gives you a totally different impression.
A beautiful waterfall can really take your breath away, and that's what the Great Falls on the Passaic River do.
So, the next time someone says you need to travel far away to see an amazing natural wonder, tell them to think again!
Regardless of the season, this national park is worth a visit. There is also a museum on the property so you can learn more about the history of the area!
