Jersey Shore Beach Passes Are Selling Out…In January
Spring Lake beach passes sold out quickly due to high demand and limited availability.
It seems everyone is already pretty excited about summer in New Jersey. Beach passes in some towns, Spring Lake, in particular, are already sold out. The passes sold out before many even knew they were available. What's the reason for this? Read on for all you need to know.
Spring Lake is beautiful but it isn't a bustling beach town by New Jersey standards.
The little town offers an emerald lake, historic charm, and a quaint downtown with some wonderful local restaurants but it lacks the boardwalk amusements of towns like Point Pleasant Beach, Seaside Heights, and Ocean City.
For the 2021 summer season, the town was offering 5,500 beach passes priced at $110. They sold out within weeks.
Many were upset, saying the town had given limited notice in an attempt to make passes available only to locals.
Borough officials dismiss these claims and note that 52% of beach passes were purchased by out-of-towners.
The rapid sell-out was likely due to a reduced number of available beach passes to meet safety and social distancing guidelines.
More beach passes may be made available throughout the spring as people get vaccinated and the number of Covid cases (hopefully) decrease. While this article is focused on Spring Lake, many towns will be offering a limited number of beach passes. Most New Jersey passes will be under $100 for the season. If you're looking to obtain one, you'll need to keep an ear out and act fast. Be aware that many towns will be offering passes by mail and online this year. Even if the beach you're looking to visit is not likely to sell out, you may still want to purchase a badge early - some towns offer discounts for season passes purchased before a certain date.
